Dental care without walls
Does your Dentist make house calls?
Maybe.
He or she may be a dental professional volunteer with the Oklahoma Dental Foundation (ODF) reaching out into the community and helping make our state a healthier place to live. The fully equipped ODF Mobile Dental Unit can reach virtually any area in the state and provide dental care anywhere that access to dental care is limited or the availability of patient funds are prohibitive. When I caught up with the mobile unit crew they were providing services mostly to homeless patients, at no charge by appointment in a park in Oklahoma City.
I’m not a spokesperson for the group so I can’t tell you why they do what they do but I can tell you about the hearts of some of those I met that day. There is a common trait among the redeemed; an unquenchable desire to serve our Lord. It’s not a quest to repay an impossible grace debt; rather there is a seeking of an avenue to return unconditional love.
Our Lord tells us in the gospel of John chapter 14: “If you love me, you will obey what I command.”, (verse 15), and again in verse 23; “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching”.
At times, the need to show Christ’s love can seem overwhelming, but we can find comfort and direction at the simplest place to start: “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40)
What if you are not a dentist on the ODF Mobile Dental Unit, or a doctor on medical mission in Africa? Is there a place for you to show the love of Christ?
I can’t answer that question for you but I know who can and I’m willing to bet the mere asking of it will bring Him glory and you blessing. Be blessed!
